Omron Industrial Automation is a leading manufacturer of technologically advanced industrial automation and application expertise. The company operates locally in every European country and is dedicated to providing unrivaled automation products and customized expert solutions for any industry.
The challenge
To offer its customers a complete technical documentation in 16 languages clearly sorted on a medium Omron needed a sophisticated solution. The aim was to offer the customer a quick offline access to data sheets and manuals, without installation required on the user's PC. Further requirements were the multilingualism, a simple and intuitive operation, and a search function.
The base for the first two editions were documents supplied in a tree structure on an external hard drive. For the following editions a XML file exported from SDL Tridion™ and EMC Documentum™ biult the base for the project.
The solution
ITS Hofmann presented an application that starts directly from the DVD and requires no installation. The software runs from Windows 95b to Windows 7 and is able to display Cyrillic character sets.
The technical documentation includes over 4,000 documents in 16 different languages. The documents are presented in a clear tree structure and are organized by product groups. A special search engine ensures that after entering a search term, only the relevant documents were displayed. An easy switch between languages is possible while the application runs.
In October 2008 the 4th edition of this project has been released.
